Just a few examples of new projects and revisions to existing content created within the my sphere of influence.

Detective Jekyl and Mr. Hystress
I joined a Sententia Games level one Surveyor certification course last fall and had a blast looking at game mechanics, why we are drawn to games and how to use them in a learning environment. Earning my badge was awesome, but I must admit seeing my team’s mock up of the game we collaborated to design showcased as a sample on their website… well that was even better.

Voyaging Around In Vyond
ISIEC’s GED Exam Prep Program
There’s a lot of talk about this tool so I figured I’d check it out to see how it differs from Doodly. My first attempts at learning to use the tool were previewed by the University of Colorado, Facilities Management and a purchase of an annual subscription for the software was approved after I presented the GED draft proposing purchase for use by the training department. Success!
I sit as co-chair on the the Infrastructure and Sustainability Inclusive Excellence Committee (ISIEC) where a partner and I lead a group of volunteer committee members as we support staff at all levels to encourage inclusive and diversity initiatives. One of the projects we worked on in 2022 is a program to offer assistance to front line staff interested in pursuing their GED. Our team of 4 committee members applied for a grant being offered by the university and notice that were were awarded the grant in May. A mentor program was launched in conjunction with the start of the 2022-23 academic year with a short marketing clip I created in Vyond to serve as an introduction to the program.
The video lives on the ISIEC website and can be linked to newsletters, provided to supervisors, and emailed out as needed to provide an overview of the program. Our rough draft ended up being very close to the program we stuck with. Final voiceovers were completed by committee members.
Meet The Team
An interactive scene with photos, hot spots, and triggers – oh my. We wanted an interesting way for our software users to learn about and become familiar with the team that supports them. This version of Meet the Team was created in Articulate Storyline. Our team members don’t change that often but when they do it’s easy to update the interaction to add someone new.
Software Upgrade Training
Preparations for an upgrade to our surplus property disposal software included introducing a new asset entry screen to our current users. Here’s a look at one of my first screen-cast video recordings rolling out use of the new asset entry screen as an overview for users of the software.
What’s a JHA Anyway?
An increased focus on a safety culture for all Facilities Management employees at the University of Colorado Boulder brought about a series of interviews, done by the new Safety Officer. The focus… to determine job hazards for each position and create a training map for safety training for each of the shops within the Infrastructure and Sustainability group. A large, but very important initiative.
One year later we faced introducing mandatory safety training to seasoned staff who were not accustomed to an annual mandatory training requirement. I sought an interesting way to showcase the basis for the training and make it meaningful to them. This cartoon video, created in Doodly, provides this insight into the safety culture and the basis for the training.
In Class to Online
This journey of moving the Supervisor Safety Training (STOP) from a classroom setting to Zoom, an unfamiliar online format was born from the dawn of COVID-19 and a work from home initiative during the summer of 2020. As you can imagine Facilities Management is a very hands on environment and our learning population was not familiar with online learning, not to mention webcams or Zoom tools. In addition this would be unfamiliar territory for our facilitators as well which meant finding a way to navigate the new environment and create an engaging, interactive environment would bring with it a steep learning curve for both learner and facilitator.
I worked with Facilities Management Safety Officer on two projects the summer of 2020. The second project involved shifting the supervisor safety curriculum to an online format and training the facilitators who would support him by running the breakout rooms, videos and other interactive elements to allow him to could focus on delivering the learning content in this new environment. This preview provides a limited look at the learning environment as the STOP training this is a proprietary learning program we purchased from Dupont. Check this project out to see how my proposed Kahoot, Wheel of Forced Participation, and Leaderboard helped created interaction and a knowledge check throughout the six week course.
Note: Scroll past our first COVID project for details on the STOP-Zoom transition framework, set up, and training for facilitators and for the learners new to online learning.
The Surplus Property Adventure
Disposing of Surplus Property is the art of knowing the intricacies of working with state issued property to designate it for disposal and the use of the software that facilitates this process. In an effort to line up with adult learning principles I worked with the Surplus Property manager we came up with a plan to transition the 120 page manual to online learning modules to teach users about the policy, use of the software, and the behind the scenes process that supports their requests to dispose of university property. The course culminates with the Surplus Property Adventure where learners can showcase their learning to earn credit for Section II of Property Accounting’s Property Manager Certification.
Click the section title above to check out the game that takes learners around campus answering questions to earn medallions and earn credit for the certification. The page also provides you the answers so you can truly navigate the game to see how it works.
