The Plan and Projects

Webinars and other live online events are an increasingly popular approach to the delivery of learning and professional development opportunities. Informed by theory and research, students plan for and facilitate live learning events delivered via synchronous online technologies.

This course provides the tools and experience needed to be successful evaluating webinars, hosting a learning webinar on your own, as well as planning and facilitating a webinar with a team. Each section was a deep dive into the how to and tools of the how to create effective synchronous events through three projects: CARP & learning effective design, creating a short self-hosted webinar, working on a team project and hosting a one hour learning webinar with a team member.

Ever been on a webpage where you’re straining your eyes to see what something says? Can’t decide where to look first? Or you’re spending too much time trying to puzzle it out that you hit that back arrow to go looking for something easier to read? The fundamentals of design – Contrast, Alignment, Repetition & Proximity. When not used C.A.R.P. results in CRAP.

The assignment, to design a short (approximately 15 minutes) learning intervention intended for a small audience. The task was to teach one concept and your participant(s) will have the chance to practice or demonstrate their mastery of the concept. This project was to get our feet wet before the Webinar Team Project.

Can you win the Engagement & Accessibility Game?

Express an interest in a couple of topics, wait for your team assignment & Go Design! Our chosen webinar topic: eLearning Authoring. Authoring tools support the development of eLearning including the creation of user interactions, assessments, etc. It may be a freeware authoring tool or it may be fee-based authoring tool such as Captivate or Articulate Storyline.

We pulled two seemingly unrelated topics into our one hour webinar session as we strove to highlight engagement as a critical component of learning.  Check out how game and accessibility are key components.
