WORKING PHILOSOPHY
I sat at the table with my six year old son, Alex, working on second grade math. His five year old brother, Kyle, played on the floor beside us as we talked through problems. At one point Kyle looked up and gave his brother the answer, I was astounded. How in the world could he even follow what we were saying? Shortly after that I stumbled in a book by Dawna Markova, Your Child IS Smart, and was introduced to the world of learning patterns. From that point on I paid attention to all the little learning details in both my children, and the rest of the world for that matter.
My extensive background in customer service and as an Executive Assistant, focused primarily on project management and training, has afforded me the opportunity to gain a wealth of information in a variety of areas including a deep understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, data, data analytics, customer service, project management, and change management. Interwoven throughout my career one constant rose to the surface, an underlying need for SOP’s, training manuals, and/or creating training in nearly all of these areas. This was normally followed by training either in classroom or online. As I wrote the training manuals and taught processes and procedures in the corporate business world I worked hard at incorporating the things I knew and learned into what I was teaching.
And as the internet was born and was slowly infiltrated our daily lives and learning environments I accepted the challenge of creating an online class for the Wendelken Studio of the Arts to help music theory students prepare for their co-requisite exams through the Royal Conservatory of Music.
I am a learner at heart, and although life becomes years of living by necessity at times and it’s taken me a while to discover my passion, I know that working in a learning environment and helping others to become the best they can be is where my heart is. I enrolled in CU Denver’s Learning Design & Technology program in 2018 and having recently graduated I look forward to utilizing these news skills to help others learn and grow in our ever changing world. On this site you will find examples of my work, both as part of the master’s program and enhancements to training in the areas at CU Boulder that touch my sphere of influence. You’ll also find links to some of my “go to” resources, and some other things that are just plain fun or of interest to me.
